The market will attract Village residents, tourists and day-trippers. Unlike other beach communities, Port Stanley has full-time residents and a recent migration of pre-boomer/boomers. The Port Stanley Festival Theatre offers year round live theatre productions some of which are world premiere productions.
From May to October, beach-goers range from teenage to multi-generational families of all ages that enjoy the beach to cool off and stay for a week/month’s long vacation. In addition, during the pandemic, more people are visiting the Village for something to do, and to enjoy a walk, grab something to eat or drink and shop. Port Stanley is a destination for Ontarians and Canadians alike, who flock to enjoy its Blue Flag Beach status which is 1 of the 23 beaches nationwide sharing this status by Swim Drink Fish Canada

Our indoor local artisan market experience will be open year-round and will be accessible to everyone. Design of the market will commemorate the former fire hall use, with the front doors being preserved, fire hall memorabilia hanging in the market, timber beams being used for structural details in the market including a market clock, like you would see in an old European market. The front façade will be updated to reflect the heritage attributes of the neighbouring buildings.
The building is undergoing extensive interior renovations to replace electrical, water, waste water, heating and new restroom facilities which will conform to the Ontario Building Code, Southwestern Public Health Unit requirements, as well as accessibility requirements to ensure the market is available to each visitor. There will be indoor bistro tables and an outdoor patio on the front driveway for market visitors to sit and enjoy market foods and beverages.
We are very excited about repurposing the old fire hall along with the opportunities that are being created for existing and new business to share their local flavours in the Village of Port Stanley!

There is a wide variety of owner-operated shops & boutiques, many of them located in quaint and historical properties that add to the charm of the Village. Shopping in the larger chains you forget what this is like - hand selected merchandise adds to the personal shopping experience. Kettle Creek runs through the middle of the Village and provides a sheltered port for boating, sailing, commercial fishing and recreational water enthusiasts. From Easter to Thanksgiving, tens of thousands of people visit the Village of Port Stanley for a day trip, a mid-week or a full weeks’ vacation stay, as a destination in Southwestern Ontario. Over the past several years, tourism statistics reveal that growth in visitors has been increasing steady since 2018, with day trippers visiting the Village all year-round.
Recent growth is attributed to the increase in retirees and families moving to beachside communities to enjoy different shopping experiences, embrace a smaller town pace of life, and all the associated attributes of getting to know your community and experiencing a sustainable way of life.
